Foreign Driver’s License Exchange
１ About this lesson
This lesson is for a person who will take a test for exchanging foreign driver’s license.
In the skill test, you drive only on the course in Driver’s License Center, not on the road.
We provide the lessons in the course both of our school and of the Driver’s License Center.
２Flowchart of getting a driver’s license
- Apply for exchanging your foreign driver’s license to a Japanese one at the Driver’s License Center at Futamatagawa, in order to confirm whether it is possible to exchange your license.
- Registration with FUTAMATAGAWA DRIVING SCHOOL
- Driving lessons at school course

Requirements for application to the Driver’s License Center
- A valid foreign driver’s license
- An official translation of the license
You need to submit a Japanese translation of your foreign driver’s license issued by Embassy or Consulate of your country. Or the translation service is available at JAF(Japan Automobile Federation; TEL 045-482-1255).
- Current passport
- A Certificate of Residence that shows your domicile
(nationality for non-Japanese) - Resident Card, Certificate for Special Permanent Resident, etc.
(foreign applicants only) - Photo 3cm×2.4cm
- Japanese driver’s license even if expired (if you have it)
- International Driving Permit (if you have it)
- Fee
Fees vary depending on types of license or on whether or not you need to take driving ability test. Please contact Driver’s License Center for more details before applying in person.

This school is open year-round except for year-end and New Year’s holidays.

４Reservation
You can make reservations at our office or by phone. You can take 1～4 lessons a day. The reservation can be made up to 20days in advance.
Please pay the fees in advance at the office or transfer it in advance to the bank account designated. You can make a reservation after the payment confirmed.

Sometimes you cannot take the lessons due to the circumstances of the Driver’s License Center.
※ Cancellation fee is charged as follows:
By 10 a.m. in the previous day of the lesson; free of charge.
By 5 p.m. from 10 a.m. in the previous day of the lesson; half amount of the lesson fee.
After 5 p.m. in the previous day of the lesson; the full amount of the lesson fee.
